PHS Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) students, under the direction of business teacher, Lisa Bowden, earned a trip to Anaheim, California to compete in the International Career Conference. This opportunity offered these six students real world business experiences through competitions that also included role plays, tests and leadership workshops. PEF made a donation of $1,500 to help this team defray costs.
Retiring faculty and staff are paid a surprise visit in June by PEF directors who present each person with a rose and gift card to Surf Rider Restaurant.
Poquoson Odyssey of the Mind (OotM) team members continue to make Poquoson City Public Schools, family members, the community and their coach Norm Remchuk proud of their hard work and dedication that enable them to compete successfully at regional, state and national competitions. In May, two teams totaling 14 students, were awarded $3,500 to offset costs of travel and hotel expenses. The World Finals was held at Michigan State in Lansing.
In addition to scholarships and teacher grants, PEF supports several other programs that enrich learning for PCPS students. Grants are often awarded to student organizations to help defray costs to leadership conferences or student competitions. We also honor the Teacher Of The Year from each school and retiring school employees.
